For over 35 years, we have offered attorneys, judges, pre-LL.M. students, and legal professionals from around the world the opportunity to study in our summer programs at the School of Law, University of California, Davis. These diverse and interactive programs include lectures from our renowned faculty and distinguished law practitioners, as well as social events in picturesque northern California. Our summer programs are available for legal professionals and law students interested in continuing their legal education.
English for Legal Professionals
The English for Legal Professionals program (June 30 - July 11, 2025) is an ideal training ground for developing your legal English. Interactive and supportive, English for Legal Professionals provides excellent preparation for the Orientation in U.S.A. Law program, which immediately follows the English for Legal Professionals Program.

Outcomes
- Improve your legal reading, writing, and analysis skills for professional and academic contexts
- Learn legal vocabulary and grammar while practicing case briefings and hypotheticals
- Collaborate with international classmates on group projects and present oral legal arguments
Orientation in USA Law
The Orientation in U.S.A Law (July 14 - August 1, 2025) provides an excellent three-week overview of the U.S. legal system. Participants get a comprehensive understanding of the common law system, the structure of the U.S. court system, legal research and writing, business law and more.

Outcomes
- Gain an understanding of key U.S. legal concepts and processes, including constitutional law, contracts, evidence, legal research, and criminal law and procedures
- Develop practical legal skills through moot court simulations, trial demonstrations, and hands-on legal research
- Build a global network by connecting with legal professionals and fellow participants from diverse backgrounds
International Business Transactions
This one-week course (August 4 - 8, 2025) is designed for international legal professionals, including attorneys, in-house counsels, compliance and legal experts, and students aiming to gain a comprehensive overview of the law of International Business Transactions from a practitioner’s perspective. This course will be taught by Jaime Ubilla, PhD, a Visiting Professor and Lecturer at UC Davis School of Law, who has extensive experience in international transactions and projects in the Latin American and Asia-Pacific Region.
Outcomes
- Understand the sources of Transnational Commercial Law, such as Lex Mercatoria principles and the UNIDROIT Principles, and their application in international transactions.
- Explore various methods of International and Transnational Dispute Resolution, including the interaction between national court litigation and international arbitration.
- Examine key issues in modern business transactions, with a focus on Corporate Social Responsibility and the ethical challenges faced by global businesses and legal practitioners.
