Public Interest

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope... and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.
-Robert F. Kennedy, Capetown, June 6th 1966

UC Davis School of Law has a longstanding commitment to public service and encourages each student to explore opportunities for service throughout their law school experience. Named for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., UC Davis School of Law strives to uphold the ideals of justice and excellence in service. The King Hall community displays a strong desire to advance the public good, evidenced in multiple service-focused students groups, events and symposiums on public service related topics, and high enrollment in clinics, externships and certificate programs. Graduates leave King Hall prepared to further the causes that inspired them to come to law school.

The Career Services Office is an excellent resource to all students who would like to become more involved in, or who have already made a commitment to public service. Career Services supports students by offering certificate programs for Public Service and Pro Bono work, individual career counseling and job resources. Throughout the year, emails and newsletters provide important resources and alert students about opportunities to attend PIPS Day, conferences, workshops, panel discussions, information sessions, and networking events. Career Services is always happy to provide information on relevant classes, clinics, externships, funding resources for public interest summer positions, loan forgiveness and repayment assistance for those entering public service careers, and student organizations with related goals and interests. For additional information contact Career Services at careerservices@law.ucdavis.edu.
